Mansoura University President: Comprehensive Update of the Burns and Plastic Surgery Building in Accordance with the International Hospital Code
Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, held a meeting on March 26, 2025, to discuss the development plan for the university's Burns and Plastic Surgery Building. This meeting comes as part of the university's commitment to developing its university hospitals, contributing to achieving national goals to advance Egypt's health system, and providing highly efficient medical services that meet the aspirations of patients from across the country. The meeting was attended by Prof. Mohamed Abdel Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Ashraf Shoma, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Mr. Saad Abdel Wahab, Secretary General of the University; Prof. Walid Mounir, Director of Mansoura University Hospital; Prof. Ahmed Abdel Jalil, Deputy Director of the Hospital; and Prof. Ahmed El-Sabbagh, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Cherif Khater discussed the need to provide all necessary medical care for burn patients. He noted the university's commitment to modernizing the infrastructure necessary to provide quality medical services for critical burn cases. This is in parallel with the university's project to expand the Emergency Hospital and construct a new extension. This is part of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to develop Egypt's healthcare system to ensure the best possible medical services for citizens. The university president directed the implementation of the development plan in accordance with international hospital standards and codes, in coordination with the engineering, medical, and administrative committees, tasking them with quickly completing the necessary procedures for the development work.
Prof. Mohamed Abdel Azim reviewed the center's development study, previously prepared by the University's Center for Engineering Studies and Consultations. This study includes civil maintenance work, the medical gas network, the fire system, elevators, operating rooms, and intensive care. He noted that development work related to the medical gas network and fire alarm system has already begun, according to engineering plans prepared to maximize the use of university resources. This includes installing an oxygen tank to serve the burns building and the student hospital, as well as covering the fire system by connecting it to the fire network at Mansoura University Hospital.
Prof. Ashraf Shoma also presented the current status of the building, which entered medical service in 2010, explaining the development requirements necessary to ensure the provision of all urgent medical care services for burns and critically ill patients from accidents.
Prof. Ahmed Al-Sabbagh gave a detailed description of the building's departments, which comprise six floors with a capacity of 61 beds, including six intensive care beds, three operating rooms, a recovery room, and two rooms for changing burn patients. He also provided a detailed description of the building's human resources, including faculty members, support staff, and staff.
Prof. Walid Mounir said that the development of the Burns and Plastic Surgery Building is an important step toward enhancing the hospital's ability to handle critical burn cases, noting that the hospital seeks to provide integrated medical services based on the latest treatment systems.
