For the second consecutive year, Mansoura University wins first place among Egyptian universities in the "Best Environmentally Friendly University" competition.
Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, announced that Mansoura University won first place among Egyptian universities in the "Best Environmentally Friendly University" competition, in the category of universities established more than fifty years ago.
This announcement was made during the awards ceremony held on the sidelines of the Supreme Council of Universities meeting today at Suez Canal University, in the presence of Major General Akram Mohamed Galal, Governor of Ismailia, Prof. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, as well as university presidents and ministry officials.
Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, received the award, expressing his sincere gratitude to the Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Ayman Ashour, and to the Ministry of Higher Education for its ongoing support of this initiative. He emphasized that this second consecutive win reflects the university's continued leadership and its ability to achieve tangible results in the field of sustainability, reaffirming its leading role in supporting the green transformation within the framework of Egypt's Vision 2030.
The university president also congratulated the Mansoura University staff on this achievement, praising their outstanding efforts. He extended special thanks and appreciation to the Community Service and Environmental Development sector, led by Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Azim, whose work has resulted in significant progress in green infrastructure projects, crisis and disaster management, and climate change preparedness. He added that over the past two years, the university has implemented a comprehensive plan to integrate sustainability principles across various sectors, enhancing its community role in supporting the nation's vision for green transformation and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. This includes implementing effective systems for energy and water conservation, waste management and resource recycling, and promoting sustainable transportation within the campus, thus strengthening its position as a leading university in this field. He noted that the university follows a comprehensive vision for becoming a green university, aligning with the nation's priorities to reduce negative environmental impacts and encourage environmentally friendly practices within its academic and service environments. Furthermore, various university units have documented environmental activities and developed the necessary databases to enhance the university's standing in international rankings. He emphasized that the university has also focused on scientific research to support studies related to climate and sustainability, utilizing its laboratories and research centers to provide practical solutions to environmental challenges. The university has also integrated the environmental dimension into its curricula and implemented training and awareness programs to raise awareness among students and staff about environmental issues.
For his part, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Ayman Ashour, praised the winning universities, stressing the importance of the university campus being environmentally friendly, noting that the universities’ efforts to raise students’ awareness of environmental issues reflect positively on society, which is embodied by Mansoura University with its continuous leadership in this field.
